Bell Schedule – Monday – Thursday Bell Schedule

To Our Coolidge Bear Families:

I hope you all have had a refreshing summer. As the start of the new school year fast approaches, I want you to know that I am looking forward to meeting you for the first time. Hopefully, the year ahead will be exciting, rewarding, and filled with good experiences for us all. Your high school years are important. They can be fun, exciting, and alive for you as you continue to grow and develop.

One way to get the most out of your high school experience is through your involvement in the everyday life of Coolidge High School. Your participation in any of the wide range of activities and athletics offered will add to your overall development. You will enjoy the days more. You will have more fun. Your involvement will also help to make Coolidge High School a better and more alive place to attend school. I encourage your involvement so we can grow together.

Important Dates

On Friday and Saturday, July 25th and 26th, we will have a special two-day orientation program for incoming 9th graders. Our goal is to help the transition process by taking these two days to familiarize freshmen with their schedules, the building, their peers, and the school’s operating procedures. The orientation will highlight how the school day runs and will allow time to introduce administrators, teachers, and counselors. We look forward to spending some special time with our new students.

To enable all this to happen, we will provide bus service to CAC and to McCray, the site of our 9th Grade Academy. All incoming 9th graders will be picked up on that Friday and Saturday. All students in grades 10, 11, and 12 should report to their bus stop on August 4th.

When students arrive on the first day, they should report to a designated classroom for ten (10) minutes before they will be released with a full schedule.

School hours are from 8:10 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., Monday through Thursday, and Friday’s Early Release hours are 8:10 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. We will have 5:30 P.M. late buses daily. The late buses will provide opportunities to obtain extra academic help from teachers and enable students to participate in club, athletics, and activity meetings.

Schedules

Extraordinary efforts by the counselors have gone into trying to personalize each student’s schedule. Long hours have been spent planning, assisting course selection, and refining conflicts. This process should have effectively addressed any of your scheduling concerns. Any possible schedule changes will be addressed with the above consideration in mind. Please realize the amount of effort already expended and the constraints of course availability, of class size concerns, and room availability.

Attendance/Dress Standards

Interaction with your teachers and classmates is an important dimension of the learning process. The entire staff strongly believes that regular attendance in class is an essential component for true learning to take place for you. We will endeavor to foster your attendance so you can maximize your learning opportunities and your educational growth. Consistent class attendance is the priority advocated in our school board policy.

Notification of absences will continue to occur. The purpose is to increase communication and awareness about the importance of classroom attendance to the learning process.

Contemporary society presents us with ongoing challenges in relation to appropriate dress in a school setting. The educational focus is on learning, and we have tried to share some common sense guidelines (see Emphasis 2008-2009 Letter) that attempt to minimize needless distraction. We ask your cooperation so that an atmosphere conducive to learning exists each and every day.

Communication

We remind you that the entire staff is available to help you with your concerns or questions. Please do not hesitate to come by the school if you have any concerns. We ask that you carefully review and read all publications and notices that you receive from the school. We have answered most procedures and technical questions in the Student Handbook.

We are encouraged by constant two way on-going communication.

Sincerely,

Keith D. Greer
